AI- Generated Content Policy

Policy on AI-Generated Content

We acknowledge the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assisting research activities and academic writing. At the same time, we are aware that improper or careless use of AI may weaken the credibility, originality, and ethical standards of scholarly publications. Therefore, this policy sets out clear guidelines regarding the use of AI-generated content in the preparation of scientific manuscripts.

Fundamental Principles

Academic integrity remains the primary foundation of scholarly publishing. Any use of AI in scientific writing must be guided by transparency, accountability, and originality. Authors remain fully responsible for every part of the submitted manuscript, whether the content was written independently, supported by AI, or partially generated through AI tools.

Permissible and Prohibited Use of AI

This policy distinguishes between the use of AI as a supporting tool and the use of AI as a substitute for the author’s intellectual contribution.

1.      Permissible Use of AI as a Supporting Tool

AI may be used to improve the efficiency, clarity, and technical quality of academic writing, provided that the author retains full control over the final manuscript and accepts responsibility for its content. Acceptable uses include the following:

a.       Grammar and spelling assistance: AI may be used to detect and correct grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, and stylistic weaknesses to enhance the readability of the manuscript.

b.      Paraphrasing and sentence refinement: AI may assist authors in rephrasing sentences or improving sentence structure for clarity, coherence, and conciseness. However, it must not be used to conceal plagiarism. Authors must ensure that the original meaning is preserved and that no copyright violation occurs.\

c.       Suggestions for titles and abstracts: AI may be used to generate ideas or alternative wording for titles and abstracts. Nevertheless, the final version must be reviewed, selected, and approved by the author.

d.      Data analysis and visualization: AI may support complex data analysis and the development of visual representations of data. However, the interpretation, explanation, and discussion of the findings must be conducted by the author.

e.       Translation assistance: Authors who are not native English speakers may use AI to assist with initial translation. The author must carefully review the translated text to ensure accuracy, contextual appropriateness, and consistency with the intended meaning.

2.      Prohibited Use of AI as an Integrity Violation

The use of AI is strictly prohibited when it replaces the essential intellectual role of the author or has the potential to mislead readers. Prohibited practices include the following:

a.       Generating an entire manuscript or major sections of it: Manuscripts or substantial parts of manuscripts produced by AI without meaningful intellectual contribution from the author constitute a violation of academic integrity.

b.      Automatically writing the methodology, results, and discussion sections: These sections require direct knowledge of the research process, analytical judgment, and interpretation of findings, all of which must come from the researcher.

c.       Producing fabricated references or citations: AI must not be used to generate false, inaccurate, or non-existent references and citations.

d.      Concealing plagiarism: AI must not be used to extensively rewrite another person’s work without proper citation in an attempt to avoid plagiarism detection. Such practice is strictly prohibited.

Extent of AI-Generated Content

In line with the general practices of international academic publishers, this policy does not establish a fixed allowable percentage of AI-generated content in scientific manuscripts. The main considerations are originality, scholarly quality, author responsibility, and transparency.

However, manuscripts in which a substantial portion of the text—more than 20% of the total manuscript—is generated by AI without meaningful author revision, verification, and intellectual contribution are not permitted. This percentage should not be understood as a rigid threshold, but as an indicator that the author must remain the primary contributor, decision-maker, and controller of the manuscript’s substance.

When AI tools are used, authors must disclose their use in the methodology or acknowledgments section. The disclosure should clearly explain the purpose of AI use, such as grammar checking, paraphrasing, translation, data visualization, or other forms of assistance, and should also mention the name and version of the AI tool used.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are fully responsible for:

  1. Ensuring the accuracy, originality, and validity of all information presented in the manuscript.
  2. Carefully reviewing and verifying any content assisted or generated by AI to prevent factual errors, bias, or misleading statements.
  3. Ensuring that AI use does not result in plagiarism, copyright infringement, or unethical writing practices.
  4. Transparently declaring the use of AI tools during the manuscript preparation process.
  5. Guaranteeing that all arguments, interpretations, conclusions, and scholarly contributions are derived from the author’s own critical reasoning and analysis.

This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically in response to technological developments in AI and evolving standards in scholarly publishing. Through this policy, we aim to uphold the integrity, credibility, and quality of scientific publications.
